We had just traveled over 24 hours and were ready to wrap up our first night in Tahiti. As you may recall from my previous post, Flying to Tahiti, we arrived some time after 10:00 PM. We would be visiting other islands in French Polynesia, but we would first spend a few days in Tahiti.
My wife is the type of person who likes to be over-prepared. She will spend loads of time researching almost anything. She wanted to make sure that our first night in Tahiti would be uneventful, so that we could ease into our honeymoon. We bought the Frommer’s guide to Tahiti and French Polynesia. This was a good purchase, and I would recommend this guide to anybody going to French Polynesia for the first time. For instance, this book made us aware of Kaku-Transport. Also, the guide recommended pre-booking transportation, which we did. Because of this, after we got our entry stamps, there was somebody waiting for us as soon as we arrived. They were very friendly, and very knowledgeable.
The Hotel
We arrived safely at the hotel. We were staying at Le Méridien Tahiti. I’m not sure if it’s still operating today because I wasn’t able to find it on the Marriott website, but the hotel was spectacular. We arrived at the front desk and were greeted. While we got checked in somebody took our bags up to our room for us. I’d been travelling for work for a few years now, with top tier hotel status. This was the first time anybody had ever taken my bags to my room, but I wasn’t about to argue with them.
The Room
We got our room keys and walked up to the room. We were more or less blown away by the quality of the room. My wife and I had been in French Polynesia for all of about 2 hours. Already, we felt like this was a very special place. The bathroom could be opened up into the main living space. Although normally this would seem strange, we were on our honeymoon so it was fine. We had a king-sized bed, a small desk, and a balcony. Outside, it was absolutely darkness. Although we knew we were in a room facing the ocean, we couldn’t see anything past the balcony!
Impressions from our first night in Tahiti
I would probably describe my first night in Tahiti as instantly falling in love with an entire country. I don’t know for sure if was because we were finally there. We instantly felt the stress of travel just melt away. The weather was perfect. The air smelled sweet. People were so nice. We hadn’t seen any of Tahiti yet, but it was already everything we expected it would be. Most of all, we were excited, and encouraged by how welcoming everybody had been so far.
Tahiti in the Light
You’ve heard about our first night in Tahiti. Stay tuned to learn about our first time seeing Tahiti in the daylight. Until then…
Keep Dreaming!
Originally from Atlantic Canada, where the beaches are always close, and the weather is occasionally warm enough to enjoy them. Moved to Ontario, Canada, where I now live with my wife and 3 children. I work in IT. I play guitar, I lift weights, and I’m an Open Water Diver.
I love the ocean and hope it can be enjoyed by all future generations. I’m looking forward to living somewhere much closer to the beach, where the weather is always warm. Somewhere with palm trees and tropical fruit growing in my back yard. Somewhere that I can scuba or surf with my family when I’m not working.
